Howlin' Beagle Bio
Howlin' Beagle is the brainchild of Daniel Gunderson, who according to some was "raised by wolves". More on that later, but right now I'm sure you're interested in hearing about the music. Right? right? please...? Anyway, Howlin' Beagle reflects Daniel's desire to perform as a band rather than as a solo performer, although he excels in a solo setting. He has been performing since he was 10, first on harmonica, then bass, then guitar. Drums and keyboards got worked in, forcing him against his will to fill in when needed. Daniel has played in several bands, and played the Chicago folk circuit for three years with Kathy Folkerts where he developed his hybrid arrangements including his "lead 12-string" approach to guitar. Also debuting during that time was his custom fretless bass. After he and Kathy parted ways, he played solo for a year and then decided to hang up the guitar in order to pay back the monumental student loans that years of a misplaced education had created. One attempt to get a band together resulted in the other guitarist getting the bassist pregnant and the two of them running off to California (ok, the two of them were married and trying but that ruins a good rock and roll story...). In 2004 he started going to cons and was eventually encouraged to take his guitar to the filk room. A friend set him up with an impromptu gig at the con before he had a chance to horrify the filk circle, and god help us fandom has been cringing since. |
